The Gold Star Family designation is reserved for families who have an immediate family member as a result of conflict.  On November 23, 2008, one month short of his return to the United States, Army Sgt. Jason  McLeod lost his life in Afghanistan while serving during Operation Enduring Freedom.   His mother, Barb Hanke and his daughter, Jocelyn, who was 15 months old when her Dad was killed, were the honored guests at a City Council where they led the Pledge of Allegiance.  They were accompanied into the Council Chamber by two Army escorts who stayed with them throughout the evening.  Blue Star Banner Families will now volunteer to lead the Pledge of Allegiance at Council meetings. All are welcome to attend.
